The Veena, or Bina, is thousands of years old, with known references before 1000 BCE. It can be referred to as a mutistringed chordophone. The particular veena is a Rudra Veena, known for its shape. The strings are plucked with the left hand, resonating in both of the lower gourds to produce its sound.
This Veena is 54" long. It has double animal heads perched atop two large carved toombas of the same size. It has 7 strings: 4 main strings and 3 chikari strings. The mythical animals on the instruments will vary from instrument to instrument, as these are individually made.
