Ralph Sweet, Adler, and others, provide us with his rich array of fine hand crafted wooden fifes and penny whistles.
Made of laminated wood, using the same body as our Professional D Whistle, with a new embouchure and internal cork joint. This fife has a very strong pleasing tone quality while giving more control over the highest notes in the second octave. A Professional whistle head is now available separately (below). Traditional fifes
Our Sweetheart military fifes play easily up to high B in the third register (even up to the D beyond that) and are authentic for Civil War or Revolutionary War re-enactments. The Cloos model was the most popular fife from Civil War times until mid 20th century, and the Colonial model is inspired by several fifes from that period in our collection.

Colonial Fife
Bb Colonial Fife: Plays exactly like "Cloos" model "L" below, but with authentic Revolutionary styling! Based on a Klemm fife at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; holes sized and spaced for accurate intonation. An authentic Revolutionary period fife, with brass ferrules and high, bright, tone, but in Bb, the most popular key today in reenactments, Fife & Drum Corps, etc.

S - Renaissance Fife: Simple, straight-bore styling with good intonation; plays easily in D, G, and A; and with cross-fingering, in other keys, One-piece construction, pitched in D; in Maple, sometimes other woods. Keep in the car! Start kids on this! $35.00
Known as "Band Flutes" in England and Ireland, these fifes are especially suited for play Irish and other folk music in bands and sessions, with their strong, easy blowing low register. Their conical bore has been designed for perfect intonation and delightful tone quality.

Variously known as whistles, pennywhistles, or flageolets (in France and Quebec), our Sweetheart wooden whistles have a fuller, mellower tone than tin whistles, with a rage of two octaves from D to high D and beyond, with perfect intonation.
The “Pro-Mellow” model Our New Professional Model
The quieter whistle. Sounds gentler for those smaller groups or for practicing. A balanced, full two-octave range while being gentler on B2. Moderate back-pressure. (Left in picture. Note the lip groove at the top of the mouthpiece).The “Pro-Plus” model
A bolder, more robust sound for playing outdoors, or for those who DO want to be heard in a session or for playing in a band. A little louder than the “pro-mellow” but balanced with the same gorgeous tone quality. A nice robust bellnote, about the same back pressure with a little more air flow. (Right in the picture. Same lip groove. The “Plus” has an extra bead above the window, and another at the bottom of the socket).Compared with our previous model, response is more balanced, transitions are smoother and more stable, and the tone is quite resonant. There’s a good “chiff” for that pennywhistle sound. Just as before, the curved windway reduces clogging, and the tapered bore in the body gives good octaves and tuning. The material is a NEW laminated wood, with beautiful matching grain, excellent integrity, and low maintenance. Blackwood models are also available.

Low D Pennywhistle
New! “Resonance” Model Low D Pennywhistle
Dymondwood Professional Whistle, Resonance Low D Whistle, Flute headThe new “Resonance” Model Pennywhistle finally combines traditional whistling with that classic, wooden-flute tone that’s rich in harmonics. For the best performance, it has a conical bore and undercut finger holes. The windway is curved to reduce clogging; the laminated block is weatherproof. Holes #3 and #6 are offset to shorten the reach and make this whistle more comfortable to hold than most other whistles. A=440, great intonation with good resonance to low D, while being gentle and clear in the 2nd register. Medium-sized holes, laser engraving, internal cork at the joint, and adjustable thumb rest. Two years in the making, designed by Walt Sweet.
Perfect for Irish Music. Suitable for beginner and expert alike.
Available in Permali Wood ® (laminated beech wood, may be slightly darker than pictured). Has a beautiful, long-lasting, low-maintenance finish (like its little brother, the Professional Model Pennywhistle in High D).

In the future, we plan to offer a “Sideblowing Adaptor”: Made of PVC, it slips on/off the end of the whistle head so you can play the instrument while holding it as a flute. This position shortens the effective reach for even greater comfort.
